Pianist and vocal coach Catherine Miller is a member of the music staff at San Diego Opera and active as a recitalist with classical singers. Recent appearances include accompanying soprano Angel Blue at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC as part of the Vocal Arts DC recital series as well as with soprano Jamie Chamberlin and tenor Nathan Granner for Long Beach Opera as part of the LA Made series at the Los Angeles Public Library.
In the fall of 2018, she served as the rehearsal pianist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s production of The Tempest by Sibelius, which was performed in Disney Hall. In 2019 and 2020 she returned to San Diego Opera as principal pianist for productions of Rigoletto and Hansel and Gretel. As a long-time past Artistic Consultant for the Pasadena Opera Guild, Ms. Miller facilitated the distribution of awards to many of the most talented young opera singers in Southern California, many of who went on to enjoy international careers.
As the new Artistic Director of the Pasadena Vocal Competition, she will be the pianist for the competition to be held in Pasadena in February 2021. She has worked with the Opera Santa Barbara, Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Teatro Municipal in Santiago Chile, and for the Spoleto Festival in Italy. Past seasons engagements with classical singers include recitals at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Wigmore Hall in London, England, the Chiesa Santa Margherita in Vernazza, Italy, and at the Modavi Center in Davis, California.
She is the official accompanist for the Loren L. Zachary Vocal Competition and the Los Angeles District Metropolitan Opera Vocal Competition. A graduate of the University of Southern California, she also holds a Master of Music Degree from the Juilliard School and was a Fulbright Scholar at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary.
Past seasons engagements as the pianist for soprano Angel Blue included Wigmore Hall in London, England, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and the Ravinia Festival in Illinois. She has appeared extensively in recitals throughout California with soprano Jamie Chamberlin and tenor Nathan Granner.
